Launching SFG’s Peace Finance Explorer
Today, we are proud to launch the Peace Finance Explorer, SFG’s platform for investors seeking to better understand how conflict-related risks and peace considerations intersect with their portfolios, and how they can respond to protect returns and ensure they are not fuelling human rights abuses and other damage through their investments.
Why Peace Finance?
Conflict is no longer a distant, regional crisis that investors can treat as someone else’s problem. In 2025, the Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) recorded 65 state-based armed conflicts, the highest number since records began in 1946, while wars between states doubled for the second year running to eight. The OECD estimates that 2.1 billion people, a quarter of humanity, now live in contexts of high or extreme fragility. The bill is staggering: the Institute for Economics and Peace puts the global economic impact of violence at US$21.8 trillion in 2025, or US$2,657 for every person on the planet. Like climate change, conflict has become a defining systemic risk of our time. And as with climate change, investors cannot manage a risk they cannot see. We built the Explorer to change that.
Guide to Using the Peace Finance Explorer
The Peace Finance Explorer is a platform for investors seeking to better understand how conflict-related risks and peace considerations intersect with their portfolios, and how they can ensure compliance with international laws and standards, implement prudent risk management, and contribute to peace-positive outcomes.
Rather than functioning as a static resource page, the Explorer is designed as a practical tool. It starts with a checklist of questions investors should consider and provides structured high-level answers. We then connect users to the most relevant evidence and resources, making them searchable and helping investors pinpoint the exact information they are looking for. Here’s how you can make the most of the platform.
Exploring the Explorer: What’s Inside
The Peace Finance Explorer is built around three core components — About Peace Finance, the Checklist and the Database.
Together, these sections guide users from understanding the fundamentals of peace finance, to asking the right questions, to accessing the frameworks, research and guidance that can support investment decisions.
What is Peace Finance?
The opening section introduces the concept of peace finance and the tiered approach we have taken to investor responsibility – regulatory compliance, risk management and positive impact.

Follow Our Checklist
This is the heart of the platform. The Checklist sets out 26 key questions investors should consider when integrating conflict sensitivity and peace into their investments. These questions are organised around the same three tiers: Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management and Positive Impact.

Together, the three tiers take users from understanding minimum requirements, to managing reputational and financial risks, and finally to considering opportunities for positive contribution.
Click on any topic to open the full question and access a structured answer outlining the key considerations for investors.

Explore Our Database
The Database gathers over 100 documents representing the latest thinking on peace finance: from leading international frameworks and standards to research and guidance produced by NGOs, financial institutions, think tanks and peacebuilding organisations.
The collection also includes interactive tools and datasets, allowing users to complement guidance and research with information on conflict, fragility and related risks. The SFG team curated the collection, selecting resources for their practical relevance to investors.

The Database’s AI-powered search takes users directly to the page that covers their search term, so they do not need to sift through long documents to find what they need. Resources can be explored through a general search or filtered using investor-focused tags covering sectors, asset classes, document types, ESG components, stages of conflict, topics of interest, regions, countries and investment strategies.
By bringing together practical questions, structured guidance and a curated evidence base, the Peace Finance Explorer is designed to make conflict sensitivity more accessible and actionable for investors.
